Cactus

Cactus at his new home in VT (sadly he had to be euthanized several months later due to an old knee injury that prohibited him from enjoying life)

Carmella

Carmella after her arrival to FHHR. This sad senior mare was pulled from a kill pen just before shipping. She was sick with strangles when she arrived and crippled with arthritis.
carmella2
Carmella with her new Momma Deb. Deb is a FHHR volunteer and she fell in love with Carmella at first sight. Carmella is happy and healthy and going on short rides.

Maggie Rose

Maggie was dumped at an auction. Semi blind, 29 yrs old and very ill.

Maggie_Rose_Small

She was saved from an unknown fate and moved to the Freedom Hill Sanctuary Program to live out her final days, healthy, happy and loved !

Sunny Day

sunnyday

Sunny was a PMU foal (her moms urine was used to make Premarin and Prempro) She was hauled to a feed lot and left to live or die in N.D. Soon to be shipped to slaughter.

sunnyday2

Her ransom was paid and Freedom Hill brought her to MD to get healthy and learn to Trust. Several months later she found a wonderful new home and lives a full happy life in the State of Virginia.

Chance

chance1

A sour lesson horse. Used up emotionally…. he would not move forward in a riding ring

chance2

Surrendered to Freedom Hill by his previous owner, he soon found a new home and lives a pampered life as a trail horse and loved family member.

Cooper

cooper1

Cooper when he arrived at FHHR from an auction in PA. He was scared and choking in the ring and his bidders were kill buyers. He had very little handling and it took months before he would allow anyone to catch him and gain his trust.

cooper2

Super Duper Cooper has been adopted and is doing wonderfully in his new home! He has made such huge progress.  Cooper loves to go on trail rides and seeks out attention from people. He even went to Gettysburg for 3 days to ride on the battlefields and see the monuments. He is really doing terrific !

Fiona

fiona1

Fiona arrived at FHHR with two other horses that were pulled from auction and at risk of slaughter. She was born with kyphoscoliosis (curvature of the spine). She was just too pitiful to leave at the auction so she hitched a ride with half blind Maggie Moo and Babe the terrified giant colt.

fiona2

Fiona is now an FHHR mascot and she travels to schools and fairs to help educate children about the world of horse rescue and perils of the horses at auctions.

Trinity

Trinity is a spotted saddle horse that was rescued from slaughter. She was pulled from Camelot Auction in New Jersey. Trin is a lovely mare that was adopted by Patrick Demerath in Kentucky. He loves his new Sweet Heart whom he states is “A real Southern Belle”. As you can see, she loves swimming and is learning all about trail riding. This is a lucky mare that went to a WONDERFUL new home !

In_the_mist-289x233

She is living at Beautys Haven Horse Rescue in FL as the owners  beloved private horse. As you can see she is happy, healthy and beautiful !

Heidi Ho

heidi1

Heidi came to us through the New Holland Auction. She appeared to be an Amish work horse ready for retirement. She was adopted by a wonderful family that spoiled her with and indoor arena and lovely pastures, stalls and friends.

Before she left the rescue. Her Holiday Picture.

After with her new adopter Bob !

Momma Mia

mommamia1

Mia came to us through Calvert County Animal Control. She was living on a farm with cattle and she was being fed dog food and bird seed. The owner said she LOVED to eat from the bird feeders. I guess if you are starving you will eat just about anything.

mommamia2

She was adopted by our Board of Directors member, Sharon Hancock. Sharon gave her a wonderful new life and Mia help  Sharon get back on horses again after hip replacement surgery.

Sadly, Mia suffered from COPD and was euthanized by Sharon to relieve her of her worsening shortness of breath.
