Riley is Happy at Rain Hill !
Recently, we noticed changes in his behavior. He got very attached to one horse in the pasture. He would worry and fret when that horse left him. He reacted violently to our farrier, which is the same farrier he has had for the last year. He would stand around and whinny for no apparent reason…. During a dental exam, the attending vet noticed he had a cataract in his L eye. We had our standing vet check him and sadly, it has been determined that Riley is going blind. He has a large cataract in his L eye and a corneal ulcer in the right. He does not appear to be in pain but he is surely loosing his sight. In light of this event, our board member Pam Hill did some research and found a rescue called Rain Hill in Kentucky that specializes in sight impaired horses. Pam contacted the rescue and they agreed to take him in a provide safe haven for him for the rest of his life ! UPDATE: Riley has arrived at Rain Hill in Kentucky and is doing wonderfully. He is very happy and has found many forever friends in his new home. Riley is a middle aged TB that came to us in a starved state. It took him just about a year to gain weight and muscle and become emotionally sound.
